GET JAZZED ABOUT READING!

This Friday, January, 25, 2008, we are starting a Jazz reading program for our school! It will last until February 25, and we are hoping the students get really excited about this program. I thought I'd take some time to tell you a little about this program. I will be sending a note home tomorrow in the Wednesday folders, but here's what the program will entail:

  • Students need to track minutes read outside of school from Jan. 25th through Feb. 25th

  • Only out of school minutes count (no recess minutes, in school reading, etc.)

  • A note will go home each Monday to track the week's minutes
  • The note will need to be returned the following Monday
  • Students will need to tell their teacher each day how many minutes they read the following night (just so we can track push them to read a lot)

  • If a parent reads to a student(s), those minutes count

  • If a student reads to a sibling, those minutes count as well (if they're both students at Ridgeline, that would be great!)

  • Parents could organize and host reading parties at their houses and all the students' minutes would count during this time
  • There will be an after school reading party on Wednesday, January 30, from 6-8; more information will be forthcoming regarding this party
  • The 12 highest averages of minutes read throughout the month will receive a Jazz player assembly!

  • Students will receive individual and class rewards, depending on how much they read
  • The top class in the upper grades, and the top class in the younger grades will receive a class party if they read the most minutes
  • Jazz posters, wristbands, and other Jazz items will be given out to students who read the most minutes in each class
  • Two Jazz tickets will be given out to the top readers in a random drawing. These tickets will be for the New York Knicks game.
  • If you have any questions, please let me know. This should be a lot of fun for everyone involved.
    DON'T FORGET TO READ!!!!!!!
